Real-life ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ dies at 46

Lucy Vodden

Lucy Vodden

Lucy O’Donnell was four years old when her classmate at nursery drew a picture of her, surrounded it with stars and took it home to show his parents.

“It’s Lucy in the sky with diamonds,” Julian Lennon told his father, inspiring one of the Beatles’ most enigmatic songs and carving his friend a slice of musical immortality.

Today it emerged that Lucy, now known by her married name Vodden, died last week after suffering for years from lupus, a disease of the immune system. She was 46.

Angie Davidson, campaign director of the St Thomas Lupus Trust, which had been supporting Mr and Mrs Vodden during her illness, said: “Everyone at the Louise Coote Lupus Unit was dreadfully shocked by the death of Lucy. She was a great supporter of ours and a real fighter…

Remastered Beatles catalog comes together, real soon

The Beatles catalog, digitally remastered for the first time, is arriving in stores Sept. 9 amid a joyful noise from fans.

Audiophiles have long lamented the thin, shrill results of the music’s 1987 transfer to CD, flaws magnified by advances in digital technology that enriched the recordings of peers with repeated remastering rounds.

“Even people listening on lower-quality ear buds and MP3s will hear a drastic jump in quality,” says Beatles historian Matt Hurwitz, who heard a sampling of the new tracks. “We’re hearing something a lot closer to the stereo and mono mixes produced in the ’60s. This is the way The Beatles heard it.”

Though frustrating for fans, the wait has heightened drama and value, says Beatles scholar Martin Lewis.

“Fans chomping at the bit felt that Apple was painfully slow responding to demand,” he says. “But at least The Beatles haven’t been overly repackaged like Elvis and The Who.”

The collection includes 14 stereo albums, sold individually or in a box set, each with original U.K. vinyl track listings, artwork and liner notes, plus archival photos and added historical and recording notes. New QuickTime mini-documentaries are included in each CD except Past Masters, which combines the two 1988 single volumes into one set.

Beatles fans pay Abbey Road tribute

When the legendary 1960’s pop band The Beatles walked over a pedestrian crossing in London in 1969, they had no idea how inspirational that record cover would become.

Forty years on, and to the exact minute, their fans have recreated the Fab Four’s famous photo. Al Jazeera’s Jonah Hull reports from Abbey Road.

A Sgt Pepper souvenir poster bearing the signatures of all four Beatles has sold for $52,500 (£31,720) at a pop memorabilia auction in New York.

Among an array of 300 musical items that went under the hammer were a set of Bob Dylan’s handwritten lyrics, which made $25,000 (£15,090).

A bass guitar owned by late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain was snapped up for $43,750 (£26,415).

In total, the auction fetched more than $650,000 (£392,200), said Christie’s…

Lucy who inspired Beatles song ’seriously ill’, says Julian Lennon

For years it was thought the song was an ode to hallucinogenic drug LSD, but it was later revealed that Lucy O’Donnell, a nursery classmate of Julian’s, was the muse.

As the story goes, one day Lennon was picking Julian up from nursery when his son showed him a picture he had drawn of a girl surrounded by starlike shapes.

His father then used the image as the inspiration for the song that features on Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, released in 1967…

The two surviving members of The Beatles presented the new game in Los Angeles.

Thank you guys!!!

Thank you very much to all the people supporting beatlestube.net during this hard time.
A guy sent me this funny text by email:

I CALL YOUR NAME, BECAUSE I need HELP! I need somebody (to fix this mess.) I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER than to become addicted to this site. YESTERDAY all these problems seemed so far away. I think if we COME TOGETHER, WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS, we can GET BACK to SOMETHING we can all agree to. Don’tASK ME WHY we should have to CARRY THE WEIGHT. Maybe I’VE GOT A FEELING it’s BECAUSE the CHAINS, IN MY LIFE, make me feel like I’M A LOSER. IT WON’T BE LONGbefore SOMETHING is done. ALL TOGETHER NOW, WE CAN WORK IT OUT. ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE, so DON’T LET ME DOWN. We can’t just LET IT BE. That would only lead toMISERY. If we SLOW DOWN, and approach it with WORDS OF LOVE, I think THE TWO OF US, can start a REVOLUTION. IF I NEEDED SOMEONE to lead us down this LONG AND WINDGING ROAD, BABY IT’S YOU.
I’LL FEEL FINE if you give me NO REPLY. I’M DOWN right now, but, I’LL BE BACK…I WILL.
THE END,

It’s great isn’t it?
